La bohème is set in Paris, France in the 1830’s. The opera is set in the apartment of four poor artists: Rudolfo, Marcello, Schaunard, and Colline. Rodolfo, the poet, meets Mimi, a young seamstress on Christmas Eve. They tell one another of their hopes and dreams and…the two fall in love.
Outside the Café Momus, the whole Latin Quarter is bustling with Christmas cheer.  Musetta, Marcello’s former girlfriend, arouses his jealousy by singing. In the end, Musetta falls into Marcello’s arms and the six friends depart from the Café Momus in great spirits.
Act three is set in a tavern, where a feuding Marcello and Musetta end their relationship and where an ill Mimi and Rodolfo vow to remain together until the coming of spring.
In Act four, the four male friends are interrupted by Musetta one evening, who bursts in with a deathly ill Mimi. While the others go to retrieve a doctor and medicine, Mimi and Rodolfo recall the first days of their love. Mimi slips into unconsciousness and dies.  In agony, Rodolfo embraces her lifeless body as the curtain falls.
