Opera Lectures
with Ron Luchsinger
August 7, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, and 21 at 6PM AVA Gallery Lebanon, NH Call Opera North 603-448-4141 for details
Opera North's Director of Production Ron Luchsinger will present a series of free lectures in August. The lectures are a means of engaging an audience in the story of how the societal environment leads to different forms of artistry. Each lecture will last approximately 40 minutes and is an interesting combination of history, music theory and artistic expression, accompanied by brief excerpts of the relevant piece. Rather than focusing on the performance of the opera (either Puccini’s La bohème or Mozart’s Don Giovanni), these lectures will focus on aspects of the work in question to place it in historical, sociological, and musical context. By emphasizing those aspects of opera, the lectures identify their artistic importance and their relevance to a present day audience.
There will be two different lectures presented, one for each of the operas for Opera North’s 2010 season. Refreshments will be served.
This is an event that is free and open to the public. No purchase of an opera ticket is necessary to attend. These lectures have been made possible through the support of the New Hampshire Humanities Council.
