| The Opera North Young Artist Program, established in 1993, brings exceptional singers in the early stages of their professional careers to Opera North for six weeks every summer to study and perform. The Program celebrates its 26th Anniversary in 2010; graduates of note include baritone Nathan Gunn, mezzo-soprano Jessie Raven and soprano Sandra Lopez.
Opera North’s Young Artist Program is distinguished from other apprentice programs in the variety and quality of the opportunities provided. For six weeks, Opera North Young Artists are placed in an environment that is nurturing and beneficial. They are treated as professionals and provided with compensation and a comfortable place to live, freeing them to concentrate on their personal musical and professional advancement.
The focus of the Program is on education through performance, which comes principally from an opportunity to perform and cover appropriate roles in both main stage productions of the Opera North season, and to work with world-class directors, designers, and conductors.
