Opera North's Resident Artist Program takes distinguished young professionals, who are recognized on a national level, to form Opera North’s core company.
This year, sixteen young professionals from around the US were chosen from over 700 applicants. For two months, they work with world-class directors, designers, and conductors as they prepare for roles in the season's productions. The Resident Artists will perform and cover appropriate roles in the mainstage productions of Opera North 2017 season – Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Offenbach’s La belle Hélène, and Cole Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate – in addition to showcasing their talents at several concerts around the Upper Valley.
Since its inception in 1983, over 700 singers and 100 conductors, coaches and directors have participated in the program and a select group of these artists have made major debuts at important opera companies around the world, including: The Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, Washington National Opera, La Scala, and The Royal Opera House.
Resident Artists return to the Upper Valley as part of ON’s Education and Outreach Programs throughout the year. They perform for over 3,000 students and adults in schools and free public performances.
