OPERA NORTH’S REIMAGINED SUMMERFEST 2020 CONCERTS
Opera North has been been an active participant on the arts working group of the New Hampshire Task Force for Reopening the Economy, working with colleagues across the state to develop plans to reopen the arts sector here in New Hampshire.
Considering all possible options for Summerfest this year meant determining what you, our audience and advocates expected of us. Board members personally called patrons and supporters to ask you directly. Resoundingly, we heard you express a hunger for live music and the fervent desire to come together as a community — outdoors and with appropriate physical distancing.
In our new, physically distanced and cautious world, we will offer two family-friendly outdoor concerts at Blow-Me-Down Farm in August. Thanks to generous donors, admission to these performances will be free:
- Bluegrass and Broadway on Saturday, August 1, featuring Klea Blackhurst, an actress, singer and comedienne, pianist Michael Rice, and Plainfield legends Pooh Sprague and the Four Hoarsemen.
- The Magic Flute on Thursday, August 6, and Saturday, August 8. Presented in a concert format, the performance will be sung in English and feature a cast of 10 singers with a 24-piece orchestra conducted by Louis Burkot, Opera North Artistic Director.
WITH YOUR SUPPORT, WE WILL SING ON!
COVID-19 and the ensuing shutdown have had a devastating impact on Opera North. As with our fellow performing arts organizations, our earned and contributed income are both down significantly from this time last year. Income from ticket sales, contributions from the local business community, annual fund contributions, and the loss of income from the cancellation of our pre-season gala total nearly $350,000. That’s roughly 35 percent of our total annual income.
Please consider a gift to Opera North at this time. Your support — no matter the amount — will truly make a difference!
