Opera North - Jazz on a Sunday Afternoon

Jazz On a Sunday Afternoon

A unique musical experience, Jazz On a Sunday Afternoon (a Wightsteeple Production) replicates the jazz sessions of the 1930s and '40s in New York and Chicago - when the likes of Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis would come together, sit-in, and jam!

For the past 32 years, JOSA Events have featured internationally renowned jazz artists who tour annually throughout the U.S. and abroad.

At Blow-Me-Down Farm, the JOSA Ensemble of Bill Wightman on piano, Bruce Gertz on bass and Tim Gilmore on percussion are joined by extraordinary saxophonists Stan Strickland and Cercie Miller (right).

Like “Tap, Rhythm and Roll” JOSA is another demonstration that our ‘park for the arts’ concept extends beyond our three Summerfest productions, expanding the range of live performance experiences our audiences can enjoy, thanks to our partnership with the National Park Service.

This is a general seating event in the tent at Blow Me Down Farm. The house will open for seating at 3:30. Arrive early and bring a picnic to enjoy before the show in our shady “park for the arts.”
